Way back last year around the release of her ‘Never Fade EP’, I went to interview Gabrielle Aplin ahead of her gig at The Roadhouse in Manchester, take a listen at what happened.
A couple of things strike me about this interview. The first isn’t even anything in the interview itself, but rather it’s a stark realisation how far this girl has come. I remember deciding to chase up her people to ask for an interview because this was someone I was really excited about for the future. Since that tour, she’s gone on to be picked up by the likes of SB.TV, The Mahogany Blog and even (bizzarely) The Sun newspaper.
In a way, this comes to my second point: throughout the interview there was a slight bit of unease about the whole thing that I couldn’t quite put my finger on at the time. Was the interview difficult? Far from it- as with most artists it was great sitting out and discovering more about them. It’s only just before I went to post it that I figured out what it was, and that is that I honestly don’t think I was expecting someone who had such a clear vision of what they wanted to achieve and where they wanted their music to go, and all this at only 18 years of age. Thinking back, that definitely caught me off guard!
Just take a look at this performance of her latest single ‘Home’ to definitely see that this confidence is paying off!
